I purchased MAXQDA to conduct my qualitative research inspired by Grounded Theory.
My intention is to conduct a diachronic analysis of the research object, i.e. to carry out a comparative analysis of different temporal periods and analyse their different characteristics, i.e. the different occurence of the same codes in a specific time range.
I would like your support on two issues:
1. setting the date of each data uploaded to MAXQDA.
A solution to this could be to set the variable. The question is: do I have to create a variable for each date? Can I select two dates to define the time frame I then want to analyse?
2. After setting the dates of the data I would like to do a time analysis and isolate the periods in which I apply the same codes. In other words, I would like to apply the codes only to the period from January 2020 to December 2020, for example, and apply the different codes only and exclusively to this period. Then I would repeat the same operation with the year 2021, then 2022 and so on.
In this way I would analyse the development of the phenomenon and be able to isolate which codes are more relevant than others in certain periods.
Is it possible to do it with MAXQDA?
Thank you in advance for your kind support.
I look forward to hearing from you
All the best, Andrea

Thank you for contacting us!
Yes, you can use document variables to keep track of the date of your documents. You can either create them as a "date" variable or as a simple number ("integer"), if the year itself is enough for you (which makes the analysis a bit easier). You can read more about using Document Variables here: https://www.maxqda.com/help-mx24/variables/document-code-variables-maxqda
I hope this helps! In case of any remaining questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Best regards on behalf of the MAXQDA support team,
