I am trying to work on a MAXQDA project that I access through an online server. I currently am using a free trial of MAXQDA. Whenever I try to access the document, I understandably get the following notice from MAXQDA: "The opened MAXQDA project file is located in a network folder. To avoid losing data we strongly advise against opening MAXQDA projects from any external resource like a network folder."
When I bypass this warning, MAXQDA freezes up, I get the colorful loading sign on my mouse, and the entire app stops working. I then have to force quit the application. On its own, I am able to work perfectly fine (i.e. creating new projects, etc) but I cannot access this project at all. I sometimes get an error message that the file is already open or broken.
I have deleted and reinstalled the entire MAXQDA software to no avail (hopefully I even did that step right). I have attached a screenshot of the frozen page.
To resolve the issue of MAXQDA freezing when accessing a project from an online server, follow these steps:
1. Copy Locally: Always copy the project file from the network folder to your local hard drive (e.g., desktop) before opening it in MAXQDA. This prevents data loss and ensures a stable connection.
2. Check File Status: Ensure the file is not open elsewhere and is not corrupted.
3. Create a New Project: If the file can be opened, create a new project file on your local drive and merge it with the problematic file to set up a new database structure.
