Content of dictionary keeps disappearing

I just spent two hours creating a dictionary in MaxQDA, only to see it disappear. The same thing happened with the last dictionary I created earlier today. When it disappeared, I assumed that I must somehow have clicked on "Delete all categories" (although I really couldn't see how that might have happened, but there was no other explanation). But this second time I am completely certain that I did not delete anything, so that I am wondering two things:

1. How on earth is this possible?

2. Is there any way for me to recover the dictionary?

For clarity: the dictionary was under "Dictionaries of the project" under the <standard> dictionary. I believe the last thing I did before all of the categories disappeared was renaming the dictionary. Could there be a bug where, under certain circumstances, the contents of the dictionary get deleted when you rename the dictionary?

Further context: this is on macOS 15.4.1

Are you saying that you cannot reproduce the bug?

Dear Haug,

If activating the Category Matrix Browser has led to the deletion of your dictionary, you can try the following steps:

1. Recovering the Dictionary:

   - Check if you have a backup of your MAXQDA project file or the specific dictionary file. If you have hourly backups, you can restore the dictionary from there. Your MAXQDA files are stored on your computer with the extension of .mx24.

   - MAXQDA itself does not automatically retain backups of dictionaries, so relying on your own backup system is essential.

2. Preventing Future Deletions:

   - Regularly back up your MAXQDA project files and dictionaries manually to ensure you have copies in case of accidental deletions.

   - Be cautious when using features that might affect your data and consider creating a backup before making significant changes.

3. Using the Category Matrix Browser Safely:

   - The Category Matrix Browser should not inherently delete dictionary content. Ensure you are following the correct procedures when using it.

   - Double-check your actions and settings when working with the Category Matrix Browser to avoid unintended data loss.

Anyway, now that it is clear that activating the Category Browser Matrix deletes the content of the current dictionary, I would appreciate if you could let me know

- whether there is any way of recovering the dictionary (do have hourly backups of my user directory, so if the dictionary is saved anywhere, chances are that I can recover it from my backup. A better solution would be if maxQDA itself retained some kind of backup for such scenarios)

- whether there is any way of preventing this from happening again while I work with MaxQDA

- whether there is any way of using the Category Matrix Browser without deleting anything.

OK, so my comment was not deleted, it was just not shown when I posted it a few minutes ago. But one still wonders: why?

I am trying to submit a follow up to this post in which I describe exactly how to reproduce this bug in two simple steps but my post just gets deleted? What is going on? This is insane. Do the people at Verbi have any respect for the work that people put into reporting bugs (or into creating dictionaries, for that matter). This is appaling!

I think I found the bug. Please check if you can reproduce this (I can):

1. Create a dictionary with at least one category

2. Click on Category Matrix Browser

3. The contents of your dictionary has just disappeared.
