When MAXQDA is installed, a folder called "MAXQDA 24" is created automatically. If this folder is located on your OneDrive, you should move it to your local hard drive (C:) to avoid performance problems, crashes and data loss.
We recommend that you save your project file locally on your drive without cloud synchronization.
In the following, you find instructions on how to save your MAXQDA project files locally on Windows:
1) This is what it looks like when you save the project file to OneDrive.
2) Instead, please create the folder "MAXQDA" manually under "This PC" > "Local disc" > "User" > "Your user name":
3) Create these two subfolders in the new "MAXQDA" folder:
4) Open your project in MAXQDA. Click on "Settings" in the lower left corner. Change the folder for externally saved files and the folder for new project files manually by clicking on the three dots (right).
5) Then select the "Local disk (C:)" location:
6) Go to "Users" > "Your user name" > "MAXQDA" and select the subfolder "MAXQDA Projects" for your project files:
7) Your folder overview in MAXQDA should now look like this:
8) Now specify the location for your automatic backups. This is important so that you can access them in case of an emergency. This can remain on OneDrive:
You should also create a manual backup on an external medium on a regular basis and after any important changes. This will ensure that your data is preserved even if you lose your computer: How can I be sure that I will not lose my work? : MAXQDA Support
9) Finally, copy your project file(s) from the OneDrive folder and paste them into your new "MAXQDA Projects" folder:
You have now successfully transferred your MAXQDA folder from OneDrive to your local hard drive, congratulations! :)
