MAXQDA AI Assist is a new AI add-on. It is designed to support researchers by generating summaries, paraphrases, and code suggestions, helping you work more efficiently with large amounts of qualitative data.

How can AI Assist support my research?

AI Assist offers several functions that align with the common tasks in qualitative analysis:

  • Summarizing coded data
    • Summarize multiple segments coded with the same code in the Summary Grid, allowing you to quickly identify common themes.
    • Add concise Code summaries directly to your Code Memos, making it easier to explain and share the meaning of codes.
    • Generate summaries for individual coded or marked text segments to keep track of essential points.
  • Paraphrasing text segments
    • Instead of a summary, AI Assist can rephrase your selected text in clear and accessible language, offering alternative ways of expressing the same idea.
  • Developing subcodes
    • Based on coded material, AI Assist suggests possible subcodes. This can help refine your coding system and reveal emerging patterns.
  • Conversing with your data
    • Use the Chat with your doccuments/retrived segments feature to ask questions about your text, enabling an interactive and exploratory approach to your data.

Can I adjust the AI-generated results?

Yes, AI Assist allows you to:

  • Choose the language of your summaries or paraphrases.
  • Define the level of detail (short, medium, or long summaries).
  • Edit, adapt, and expand AI-generated text just as you would with any memo, ensuring the results fit seamlessly into your analysis.

Why is AI Assist useful?

Working with large volumes of qualitative data can be overwhelming. AI Assist is not a replacement for your analytical thinking, but a supportive tool. It helps you:

  • Save time on routine summarizing tasks.
  • Gain new perspectives on your data.
  • Organize and present findings more clearly.

AI Assist brings automation to the parts of analysis that are time-consuming, so you can dedicate more energy to the creative and critical work of interpretation.
