How you can upgrade depends on the type of license you have.
All users currently using MAXQDA 24 can upgrade to the latest version (26.0) free of charge.Subscription / 3- and 5-Year Licenses
As a MAXQDA 24 subscriber, you have already received a version-independent serial number starting with MQSI00-xxxx-... or MQNE00-xxxx-....
Your serial number is valid for MAXQDA 26 on your computer. You do not need a new serial number and do not need to deactivate your current serial number beforehand.
Students
Students can use their existing serial number (MQSE00-xxx or MQST00-xxx) directly with MAXQDA 26. After installation, MAXQDA 26 will be automatically activated.
MAXQDA 2022 Perpetual License
If you hold a MAXQDA 2022 perpetual license, you can find a special offer to upgrade in our shop.
We no longer offer perpetual licenses, but rather annual subscriptions and licenses that automatically expire after 3 or 5 years.
This ensures you always have access to the latest MAXQDA features, including AI support.
Upgrade Instructions
- Install: Please download and install MAXQDA 26.
- Activate: When you open MAXQDA 26, your license will be automatically active.
- Open Project File: Your MAXQDA 24 project file (mx24) will be displayed on the start screen. When you open this project file, it will be automatically converted and copied to the new version-independent project file with the (mqda) extension.
- Uninstall: MAXQDA 24 can now be uninstalled, as you no longer need this version. All your project files created in MAXQDA 24 will remain on your computer.

TeamCloud
If you use TeamCloud, your TeamCloud project must also be updated to a MAXQDA 26 TeamCloud project. Only then can you continue working with your TeamCloud project.
