How you can upgrade depends on the type of license you have.

All users currently using MAXQDA 24 or MAXQDA 26 can upgrade to the latest version (27) free of charge. All users who are using MAXQDA 26 can update from the main interface of the software.

Versions

Upgrade Instructions for MAXQDA 26

1. Open a MAXQDA project
2. A popup appears which directs you to download and install the latest version
3. Alternatively, you can open the help icon on the bottom left and click Search for Updates or download the latest version and install it. 

Upgrade Instructions for MAXQDA 24

1. Install: Please download and install the latest version of MAXQDA.
2. Activate: When you open MAXQDA, your license will be automatically active.
3. Open Project File: Your MAXQDA 24 project file (mx24) will be displayed on the start screen. When you open this project file, it will be automatically converted and copied to the new version-independent project file with the (.mqda) extension.
4. Uninstall: MAXQDA 24 can now be uninstalled, as you no longer need this version. All your project files created in MAXQDA 24 will remain on your computer.

TeamCloud

If you use TeamCloud with MAXQDA 24, your TeamCloud project must also be updated. Only then can you continue working with your TeamCloud project. Please remember that all the team mmebers must be using the same version of MAXQDA.

How to migrate a MAXQDA 24 TeamCloud project to the latest version of MAXQDA?

Licenses

Subscription / 3- and 5-Year Licenses

As a MAXQDA 24 subscriber, you have already received a version-independent serial number starting with MQSI00-xxxx-... or MQNE00-xxxx-....

Your serial number is valid for MAXQDA 27 on your computer. You do not need a new serial number and do not need to deactivate your current serial number beforehand.

Students

Students can use their existing serial number (MQSE00-xxx or MQST00-xxx) directly with MAXQDA 27. After installation, MAXQDA 27 will be automatically activated.

MAXQDA 2022 Perpetual License

MAXQDA 2022 licenses can be upgraded to MAXQDA 27 for a fee.

If you hold a MAXQDA 2022 perpetual license, you can find a special offer to upgrade in our shop.

We no longer offer perpetual licenses, but rather annual subscriptions and licenses that automatically expire after 3 or 5 years.

This ensures you always have access to the latest MAXQDA features, including AI support.
