If MAXQDA does not play audio and/or video files, we recommend resetting the settings. To do so, open MAXQDA’s main preferences, navigate to the “Interface” tab and select “Reset interface settings”. MAXQDA will then have to restart.

Another reason may be that the file does not exist. Media files are usually stored as external files (MAXQDA Online-Manual: External files). If the file cannot be found in the stored path, it cannot be played. You can reconnect the file by opening the settings and adding the file.

Right-click on the media file. Select the bottom item, "Document Properties", from the context menu.

Click on the plus sign in the Media File tab and add the media file again. The file should now play again.
We recommend saving media files to your local hard drive. Saving them to external hard drives or cloud storage may result in the file not being found or the connection being insufficient for playback.
Faulty media file The settings of media files can vary even if they are in the same file format. Please import media files with a constant bit rate. Use mp3 or AAC as the audio codec.
Check whether the file's metadata contains information about the length of the file. It may also help to convert the file to a different file format, e.g. .wav.
Further tips on importing media files can be found in the MAXQDA manual: Import Videos - MAXQDA
